It was not worth the fees they charged. Most of the greens were not useable, even thought they told us that only 4 greens were unusable. They gave us $20 off and a gift certificate for $20 off for a round later which was useless because I wasn't driving 1400km for that.

This is where they are going to hold the 2010 US Amateur and the 2015 US Open. Played this track last Sunday and limped in shooting a smooth 99. This Bad Boy will flat whip ur butt, but would do it all over again as it was an experience you will never forget.
If you ever get the chance to play this course, it is a must play at least once. Tons of waste areas, Carry from tee box on most tan tees (Whites) were at least 235 yards + to make it to the fairway. Hit a strong driver and rip a 3 wood and still have 20 to 50 yards off the green on most par 4's. Once on the green it took some thinking, because of the extreme contour of the greens on all the holes . Easy to 3 putt. Good placements shots are a must if you want to score well. If you hit in the waste bunkers, which I did a lot of, just missing target area in the fairway by some 5 to 10 yards, then you could easily rack up some numbers as the wastebunkers were very wide, unraked and long. Sand was hard as it had rained the day before so if you were not careful one could easily blade the ball. It is a walking course only and plays very long at 7585 yards with wind usually a factor, it is a real test of golf. Plan on at least a 5 + hour round of golf, with some awesome scenery a ton of walking and a new respect once done for the pros and their ability to go low and shoot a great score. Will be interesting to see how they fair when the time comes especially after finally being able to walk the course and play it.

Probably our favourite course in Canada and we've played many in Ontario, Quebec, PEI, BC and Alberta. Scenic, excellent condition, interesting and challenging.

Played on 2009-09-10 @ MOUNT DOUGLAS GOLF COURSE located in Victoria, BC, Canada

Mt. Douglas is a very well manicured 9 hole course in my beautiful hometown of Victoria. The groundskeeper has done a terrific job of maintaining the greens this summer. The staff and regular golfers there are so friendly we can't wait to go back again and again.

The front nine is a challenge. You will need a cart. The back nine isn't very challenging and much of the same over and over. I don't think I'd play again.

Editors note - This gentleman also made comments that simply can not be verified and are not relevant to the course and therefore have been removed from the review.

We played this course recently and were thoroughly disappointed. It was better as an executive course. There is no flow to this course - the greens were slow and inconsistent - the cost was ridiculous considering the shape it was in and on several holes - we had no idea which direction we were to proceed. All 4 of us are avid island golfers and all have indicated we will not be back!!

Beatiful scenery, amazing condition, but to me the course layout lacked any imagination whatsoever, as if McBroom wanted to say "screw you average golfer". If I never see another ravine in my life it will be too soon, as seemingly every hole had demanding shots that if missed by 10 feet, would kill you.

  • Dwayne D of Calgary, Alberta,

Played on 2009-08-05 @ SHADOW MOUNTAIN GOLF COURSE located in Cranbrook, BC, Canada

A long tight golf course with bent grass from tee to green. Very good condition for a new golf course. A mix of long down hill par fours with a couple of short ones. Seems as all of the holes had well placed bunkers in play from the tee. There are plenty of them and they are generally placed to catch long wayward drive and not to catch the short and crooked.

The greens had the typical new green hardness, but putted very well. Enjoyed the mowed down chipping areas around several of the greens, something that you don't see much in Canada. Very good practice are as well.

A solid test but still very playable, just make sure you play from the proper tees for your skill level. This will be a very good track once it matures.

  • Larry Kilpatrick of Ladysmith, BC, Canada

Played on 2009-08-02 @ SUNNYDALE GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB located in Courtenay, BC, Canada

I had an unpleasant experience playing at Sunnydale golf and country club in their annual Tillicum open tournament. Despite golf carts being available, I was refused rental because they claimed they had a "standing policy" about too many carts following the final groups on the last round. First of all the cart was for my son who was actually playing in one of the final groups and second there were other carts following the final groups. Their attitude was condescending and dismissive, their actions were arbitrary and discriminating, and as a visitor I felt I treated as a second class citizen and totally unwelcome.

  • Kurt Ball of Vancouver, BC, Canada

Played on 2009-07-28 @ PHEASANT GLEN GOLF RESORT located in Qualicum beach, BC, Canada

It was great to play a course that is still in great shape even with the hot temperatures of late. The greens are fast and the fairways are lush. They have widened the fairway cuts and entrance ways to the greens since I last played it and it is both visually pleasing and well manicured. The day was great from the friendly greeting, to the complimentary range balls, on what has to be the best practice facility I have been on, to the great atmosphere on the deck following my round. It was well worth the $75.00 green fee and I can't wait to make a return visit. Well done Pheasant Glen!
